HIST 151 003 1st Edition Lecture 1 Outline of Last Lecture I N A Outline of Current Lecture II Syllabus overview Current Lecture III Dr Knaus spent the first day of class overviewing the class syllabus As a student it should be second nature to overview the syllabus to answer any basic questions that should arise however she walked the class through it so every student is aware of the classroom expectations While reviewing the syllabus she informed the class that there will four books that must be purchased The American Promise History of the United States vol II 5th ed 2012 Up From Slavery Booker T Washington All Souls A Family from Southie Michael Patrick MacDonald All The Shah s Men An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror Stephen Kinzer Dr Knaus also brought to light the class schedule and how tests and books quizzes will be presented and the days that they are scheduled Every book quiz or exam given will be on Fridays There is one syllabus quiz which covers information provided on the syllabus the class is also required to sign the student code of conduct at the end of the syllabus quiz Book quizzes will be ten questions of multiple choice they will be given at the end of class The three books that are not the textbook will not be talked about in class be sure to keep up with the readings and read them on your own time There are four exams that will be given in the class including the final which is not cumulative Each student will have the entire class period 50 minutes to answer one essay question there are no multiple choice questions on the exams Each essay will cover the chapters of The American Promise and The American Promise only Be sure to study the Key Terms that Dr Knaus has presented on the projector they will guide you through your essays and provide substantial evidence to the prompt given It is important to note that students will not know the prompt nor the chapter that the exam is covering until the test These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor s lecture GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes not as a substitute day It is the student s responsibility to read all required materials in order to succeed in the class Critical Dates 1 Syllabus Quiz 2 Book Quiz 1 3 Test 1 4 Test 2 5 Book Quiz 2 6 Test 3 7 Book Quiz 3 8 Test 4 F 1 30 10 points F 2 06 examines Up From Slavery 30 points F 2 13 examines Chapters 16 17 and 18 100 points F 3 06 examines Chapters 19 20 and 21 100 points F 3 27 examines All Souls 30 points F 4 10 examines Chapters 22 23 24 and 25 100 points F 4 24 examines All The Shah s Men 30 points Wednesday May 13 4 10pm examines Chapters 26 27 28 29 and 30 100 points Dr Knaus also informed the class that she will sometimes give out attendance rewards Attendance rewards usually result in useful information regarding exam quiz hints or the removal of specific key terms that will not need to be covered on the exams quizzes
