GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.- We have 2 kidneys with an outer capsuleo Consist of external cortex and internal medullao Cortex: reddish in color, vigorous blood supplyo Medulla: gray in color, sparse blood supply- Kidneys get about 25% of blood flow, goes into the nephrons- Arcuate arteries -> afferent arterioles ->glomerular capillaries, which are inside the bowman’s capsule- 80% of nephrons are entirely in cortex: cortical nephrons- 20% of nephrons are in the cortex except for the loop of Henle: Juxtamedullary nephrons (“next to the medulla”)- 3 processes occur in the nephrono 1. Glomerular filtration Happens in glomeruluso 2. Reabsorption Out of tubular fluid and back in blood streamo 3. Secretion Out of capillaries and into tubular fluid- We produce about 1L per day of urine- Hydrostatic pressureo Any time there’s fluid there’s pressureo Pushes fluid out of glomerular
