Chapter 17Current LectureProfile Basics-Find a focus for your profile-What’s the main reason for your story?-What makes the person different?-What makes the person extraordinary?-How can you tell a story that captures the different and extraordinary nature of this person?General Structure: 1 st 3 graphs-Paragraph 1: use a anecdote that captures what makes your person special. You may name the person in the first graph, since they’re the focus of the article and we’re writing feature style.-Paragraph 2: Build off the lead. Explain the information in-depth. Introduce additional details about your subject-Paragraph 3: Solid direct quote from your subjectProfile Basics-You will weave vignettes & background-Background-Weave background into narrative-Don’t use chronological order-You are not writing a resume-The interview setting can pay off-Describe the setting, when relevant-Objects might cue questions, which elicit stories-Let your reader “See the person” even without photographs or videoThe Profile Lead-Use a soft news lead-Descriptive-Narrative-AnecdoteThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
