PRE-LAB REPORT(MUST BE WRITTEN INSIDE YOUR LAB NOTEBOOK)Note: There is NO pre-lab for the second lab period of this experiment.Post-lab Report (This is an individual report)(MUST BE WRITTEN INSIDE YOUR LAB NOTEBOOK)CHEM 14CL 11 - REPORT GUIDELINES FOR C60 EXTRACTION EXPERIMENT PRE-LAB REPORT (MUST BE WRITTEN INSIDE YOUR LAB NOTEBOOK) (I) Introduction (II) Procedure for the entire experiment in flowchart format plus reference (III) Complete all questions under "Pre-lab Assignment" on page 111. Note: You will need to read the background materials in the lab manual for this experiment BEFORE you know how to answer some of the study questions. (MUST SHOW ALL WORK IN ORDER TO RECEIVE ANY CREDIT) NOTE: THERE IS NO PRE-LAB FOR THE SECOND LAB PERIOD OF THIS EXPERIMENT.CHEM 14CL 11 - REPORT GUIDELINES FOR C60 EXTRACTION EXPERIMENT POST-LAB REPORT (THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL REPORT) (MUST BE WRITTEN INSIDE YOUR LAB NOTEBOOK) *Abstract - Summarize the UV spectra results (i.e. the absorption wavelength of the C60 & C70 on the spectra). Outline the goal(s) of the experiment. Outline the experimental techniques (including any purification techniques) you used that allowed you to achieve such goal(s). * Observations - Describe the changes in color of the fractions you collected *From the mass spectrum you are given, CALCULATE the atomic weight of carbon (MUST show all your work). *Ignore any absorptions that occur below 400nm on the UV spectrum. Explain how it is that you "see C60" in the orange (or both) fractions by using the UV spectroscopy. What differences are there in the two spectra for the two fractions of C60/C70? Be Specific and focus your answer on the absorbance between the 2 spectra and the locations of the C60/C70 peaks!! *Conclusion - summarize again the UV spectra results (i.e. the locations of C60 & C70 on the spectra) - base on results from the UV spectra of the 2 fractions, did you completely isolate the C60 & C70 by using column chromatography? Explain. - What can you do to improve the separation of C60/C70 in column chromatography?
