Mode of Production (continued)Current LectureMode of ProductionAs described in the last lecture the mode of production changes depending on what time periodyou are in. 100,000 years ago was hunting and gathering society10,000 years ago was King ordered/ tribal/ slave5,000 years ago was State or Tributary 500 years ago was Capitalism The technology for hunting and gathering were spears, bows and arrows, etc. the means of production is labor, bows and arrows. The production relation was communal and the super structure is nature was worshipped and sacrifices King ordered/ tribal/ slave societies had means of production farm tools; wagons, plows etc. The product relations were tribal, lord and slave. The super structure is religion, nature worshipped, ancestry worshipped and proto state. The King society had a pyramid structure, on the bottom tier were slaves, just above them were peasants or serfs, above them were traders and artisans, then military, bureaucracy and priests and the top tier is the King. This society is seen in the Egyptian- Nile valley, Indus valley, Pakistan/ India and Chinese- Hwang Ho. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
