Physicalityo Voiceo Body o Eyeso Ageo Face- The camera has to be able to pick up on these physical traits – must know how to move and be expressive, must be comfortable with your body on camera- Close up: big moments in a movie that emphasize just the face and the eyes- Acting begins with good bone structure2. Personalityo Joan Crawford had nerve, intensity, desperateness, intelligence 3. Talento An actor’s ability to hold the screen, dance, sing, etc.4. Mythology/storyo Every performer has 2 types of storieso People bring with them the characters the actors have previously playedo People know who the character is going to play before the movie beginso Persona: - A mask, comes from Greek drama- Greek performers would first come out with a mask- Before the actors said a line, the mask/persona said it all- Every movie writes to persona, sees an actor in mind- Everything is tailored to that persona- Persona is controlled by the actor- Casting is characterization – Alfred Hitchcock - Importance of persona: Raiders of the Lost Ark  originally wanted Tom Selleck, would have been drastically different movie without Harrison Ford - The players are cultural emblems- The personas convey the best and the worst cultural aspects- A star is someone who’s entity never changes throughout the film, can carry any picture - Movie is a product sold by and with the physical properties of the player - The actor sells the picture Entrance and exitWhat the audience remembersTypes of actors- The Star- Actoro Player who has talent and a persona for many different roleso Some actors are stars – some stars are just stars- Non-professional o Only works on filmo Cannot be on stageStyles of acting1.
