Reading response on “Of Studies” From: The Essays by Francis Bacon. Q: What does Francis Bacon mean by “of studies”? A: In a summary and analysis done by Anuj Boruah it says that the title “Of Studies” means the collective studies that a person does in his life. The following is a summary of what I understand and conclude from Bacon’s essay. Bacon explains that there are three uses of studies, namely delight, ornament, and ability. It can also be seen as the benefits of studies. Bacon sees studies and education as two separate things and thinks that without experience studies are of limited use. From reading this essay we can conclude that it is good to have knowledge, but it is important to know how to use it and to find a balance when one must decide what to do with the knowledge they are presented with. Also, Bacon wants the reader to know the vitality of studies and to do this he has analyzed the importance of studies throughout his essay. I agree with everything that Bacon said throughout his essay because I think that knowledge is power and combining it with experience will put you in an advanced position and create a lot of opportunities.
