What is sexual harassment and what items cause this offense to occur in the workplace? What methods of discourse do employees have when sexual harassment takes place? Sexual harassment isany unwanted sexually oriented; comments, advances, physical contact, looks, and off color jokes. Other types of sexual harassment are third party and quid pro quo. Third party sexual harassment happens when a bystander is affected by the behavior of othersacting in a sexual manner.An example would be if abeer vendorbrought in aposter of a scantily clad girl advertising beer and posted it on the wall for the receiving clerk.Another employee that sees the poster may be offended by it.An example of quid pro quo is: I will scratch your back if you scratch mine. The employer might infer that a sexual favor is required of the employee to geta promotion, time off, more hours, more pay, keep their job, etc.At my company, Third party sexual harassment is the most common.Twoor moreemployees joking ortelling stories and thinking nobody else is around. Another employee or customer sees or overhears the behavior and is offended. The second most common thing is one employee asking out another employee repeatedly after being rejected.Ihave seen thishappen male to female, female to male, male to male, and female to femaleWhen employees feel they have been sexually harassed, they have to report the incident to a supervisor, manager, or human resources. Sexual harassment is a Zero Tolerance policy at my company. Every employee signs the policy defining sexual harassment and agrees not to behave in a manner that violates policy. If an employee is investigated for sexual harassmentand found guilty, they are terminated immediately. Depending on the circumstances, the employee may be suspended pending investigation. If they are innocent they are reimbursed for lost wages. If themanager doesnot handle the situation immediately, they may facedisciplinary actionas well.Response 2Sexual harassment is a form of sexual discrimination that occurs in the workplace. Sexual harassment is defined as sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and otherverbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature that tends to create a hostile or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment can happen in many forms or ways such as: touching, looks, comments and even hidden innuendos like leaving a dirty joke on a co-workers desk. Companies should have a formal, well written sexual harassment policy that is: postedfor employees to see, appears in the employee handbook and is listed on all company policy documents. Train every employee so they know the company has a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment and provide information to employees about the consequences of sexual harassment in the
