Initial training when an employee is first hired, is very important. If a person’s initial training is lacking they will not be able to perform to standards on the job. Likewise, ongoing training is important as the company progresses. New laws or updated technology will call for existing employees to received ongoing training that coincides with the progression of the company. The need for employees to be trained also is increased when there are certain changes like change of job nature, change of work methods, and change in consumers, or product development. The organization goes through the following steps for the transfer of training to thefield.Employee Development MethodsEvery organization needs well-adjusted, trained and experienced people to perform its activities. As jobs in today’s dynamic organizations have become more complex, the importance of employee education has increased. Employee training is a learning experience; it seeks a relatively permanent change in employees regarding their job performance. Training involves changing skills, knowledge, attitudes, or behavior. This may means changing, what employees know, how they work, or their attitudes toward their jobs, coworkers, managers, and the organization.Employee Training 3There are two categories of training methods, on the job training and off the job training. On the job training includes, job instructions, job rotation, assistant –to-position, committee assignments, and apprenticeships and coaching. Off the job training methods would include lecture courses and seminars, vestibules, role-playing and behavior modeling, and simulation. Job rotation gives employees the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and ability by moving the employee to different positions throughout the organization. The two types of job rotation are vertical and horizontal. Vertical job rotation occurs when the organization promotes an employee to a new position. Horizontal job rotation occurs when an employee is given an opportunity at a different position in a short-term lateral position. The benefit of job rotation is that the method broadens an employee’s exposure to the organizations operations and turns specialist into generalists (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). Assistant-to positions give employee an opportunity to experience different positions by working under successful managers in a different area of the organization. When an employee is an assistant, he or she experience a range of management activities, and can perform the duties ofthe next higher level. Committee assignments allow an employee to be involved in the decision-making process, learn by watching others, and help investigate specific organizational problems (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). The benefit of committee assignment is that employees can grow, and can be appointed to a permanent committee where the employee can help in the long-term decision making process, and investigative issues in the organization.Employee Training 4 Relationship between Employee and Organizational DevelopmentThe relationship between employee development and organizational development is that each focus on improving the organization. Organizational development addresses the system-wide change in the organization (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). Change is the main reason for the need of organizational and employee development. If there is a need for a change in processes, the employees need to learn new production methods, procedures, and skills to perform the new processes. For an organization to succeed; the organization and employees to adapt to changes taking place. The organizations human resources department has to identify what the changes areand how to develop the skills of the employees to meet the changes.Human Resources Managements Role in Career DevelopmentThe role of human resources management in career development has been evolving over the last decade. HRM use to provide tools to employees to help him or her to realize his or her career goals. In today’s business world the role of HRM in career development has changed into a morecontemporary career development program. The contemporary career development program supports the employees through building his or her self-reliance, and continual learning. The support that HRM gives includes clear communication of the organization’s goals and future strategies, growth opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and offering employee’s time off to learn.Career development is valuable to an organization because it makes sure that talent will be available, attracts, and retains high-talent employees, gives minorities including women theEmployee Training 5growth opportunities, frustration reducing among employees, builds cultural diversity, enhances quality, and promotes organizational goodwill (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). The HRM goal is to attract and retain employees, and by promoting a career development plan the HRM can succeed.Personal Career Development Although I have for over 14 years worked in the administrative field, I knew that in order to go to the next level, I needed to get my degree. In five years, I hope to have opened my own staffing agency. I currently work in a management position, responsible for two departments in my organization. Over the past three years, I have worked in management, responsible for two departments in my organization. I have learned a lot in this position regarding the skills needed to be and effective manager. However, I am not certain that this organization will equip me withany additional career development opportunities. Therefore, I may need to look into other opportunities going forward.Employee Training 6Conclusion Employee training and career development involves many aspects of the human resources management’s role in the organization development. The employee development has six methods that can be put to use each with different benefits. The relationship between employee development and organizational development is that each has to adapt to changes in the organizational processes.
