Student Learning Outcome (SLO): Students completing Biology 20 will be able to comprehend, analyze and evaluate biological concepts. Assessment Method and Criteria: On the final exam, students in all sections of Biology 20 will be given 20 identical, standardized questions that will assess basic biological concepts. Students will score 70% or better on this set of multiple choice or true/false questions embedded in the final exam. IMPORTANT DATES January 22 Last Day to apply for a refund February 14 Last Day to withdraw without a “W” March 12 - 17 Spring Break April 6 Last day to withdraw with a “W” April 26 Article Critique Due Test Dates (Subject to change): Exam 1 February 9 Exam 2 March 8 Exam 3 April 10 Exam 4 May 8 Comprehensive Final Exam: Thursday, May 17th 10:15 AM– 12:15 PM Required Textbook: Biology: Concepts and Connection (7th Ed.), 2011 Authors: Campbell, Reece, Taylor, Simon and Dickey Online Resource: www.campbellbiology.com Required Lab Manual: Introduction to Biology, Biology 20 Laboratory Exercises LECTURE SUPPLIES: LAB SUPPLIES (Steve’s Lab Only): 4 Scantron # 882 1 Scantron # 882 1 Scantron # 884 10 Scantron # 815 5 Scantron # 815 basic calculator – cell phones do not count! **Do not write your name on the Scantron forms, just paper clip them together along with the student information sheet & the other 2 assignments. If there is a problem with the exam or quiz dates, see me well in advance so other arrangements can be made. If you miss an exam or quiz (lab only), this will be the exam or one of the quiz (lab only for Steve) scores that are dropped. Exams and quizzes will be given at the beginning of class. If you show up late, you will not be allowed to take the exam or quiz and it will be one of the quiz scores dropped. Students who fail to take two exams will be dropped from the course. The final must be taken and will not be the exam score dropped. ATTENDANCE: Since many of the questions on the tests will come from the lecture material, it is critical that students attend all class meetings. If you must miss a class, it is your responsibility to get the notes from a fellow student. If your number of absences exceeds the number of hours the class meets in two weeks, you will be dropped from the course. After April 6, 2012 you cannot officially be dropped from
