Unformatted text preview:

The author begins by proposing that man's insight is essentially what we know as "science." It is truly astonishing to consider that all that is now universally known and accepted as facts of science was simply a product of "human contemplations," which comply with the basic laws of logic. Man's insight into the universe is simply a compilation of different contemplations produced by many different people over an extensive period of time. What we know as "science" is simply an accumulation of the outcomes of "special criteria, rules, and logical procedures." Faith is accredited with instituting the appropriate encouragement that humanity requires in order to explore these "certain realities in the universe." The author believes that the concept of faith and all of the beliefs that it encompasses were essentially force fed to humanity by the hand of prophets of God or by philosophers who wished to promote certain beliefs. Concisely, the author believes that science is the repercussion of faith and that without faith, science would not exist. After an extensive explanation of the concepts of insight, science, and faith, the author introduces his belief that the one main difference between humans and all other animals is the understanding of science and faith. Then, the author goes on to point out each of the characteristics which are commonly believed to set humans apart from other animals and explains why all of those other characteristics are somewhat accurate in their own way. However, it is clearly explained after careful analysis that there are no better distinguishing characteristics of man than the concepts of faith and science. The author discredits the common misconception that cognition is actually "the touchstone of man's distinctiveness" by justifying that faith is the glorifying force that causes philosophers around the world to even question the concept of cognition in man. To sum everything up as simply as possible: It all begins with faith and endswith science, without faith or science, we would lack the distinct qualities which set humans apart from other animals.Questions about the topic:1. Why does science and faith have to be the distinguishing characteristic of man as opposed to other important characteristics such as creativity and complex emotions?2. Why does the author believe that the human race as a whole had to be given faith by certain powerful individuals rather than being able to come up with beliefs
