Next version was by Chet Atkins and was in the country/jazz style, this was the version the Ventures knew)- Electric guitar uses bright lead pickups o Single coil pickups- Whammy bar increases or decreases the tension on the strings to raise or lower the pitcho Essential for surf rocko Bending the strings and using the slide guitar method are both limited when compared to using a whammy baro Whammy bar provides a much broader range of pitches and bendso Adds vibrato and gives the guitar a fluid vocal-like effecto Almost all of the sustained pitches in this song have vibrato from the whammy bar- Whammy bar double stops and stop time breaks- Bridge – virtuosic use of whammy baro Not just a trick, takes a lot of practice and technique to control- Rhythm guitar hammering on chordso Simple and aggressive manner is another predecessor to punk- This is the first track we’ve heard in this class that is in the minor keyo Minor key has a different pattern of whole and half steps than the major keyo Gives a darker, more serious and sad soundo Surf rock brought those sounds into the rock sound, which ended up being very
