Color of their skin- Sense of common affinity- Interacting with others similar to you- Prejudice- Exists in every society- Can be both positive/negative- Racism- When you and society make laws to give your group rights and deny others their rights- Pluralism- Believes you can live under one umbrella together with no problems- Ex. Melting pot- Acculturation- Based on majority culture that dominates you- Assimilation- Minority slowly loses their identity as a cultured group- ABCD- American Born Confused Desi- Segregation- Forcing people to live in certain areas- Economic segregation is the most common example- Genocide- People of a certain group mass murdered- Can be based on wealth, race, ethnicity, religion, etc.- Theories of prejudice- Scapegoat theory- Blaming somebody for something (s)he did not cause- Blaming Latino’s for not being able to get a job- Authoritarian personality- You were born superior and nothing can change that- Conflict theory- Marxist look at any social problem in terms of who has the money- Believes economic class is the issue of prejudice- Not race or ethnicity- Theories of racial and ethnic inequality- The caste analysis of race relations- Certain groups of people are inferior/superior- Decided by birth- Domination theory- When one group is dominated they are labeled inferior- Noel’s theory of ethnic stratification- When one ethnic group dominates another ethnic group- Internal colonialism- Colonialism  when one land claims another- Internal colonialism  people treat others as colonies- Rich  poor- Men  womenConsequences- Poverty- Hunger-
