MUH 214 1st Edition Lecture 3Elements of Music (Continued)Form-The basic structure or organizing principle of a piece of music.-Micro/Macro-Binary; AB-Ternary; ABA-12 Bar Blues-Standard Song Form; AABA, ABAC, ABA.-Theme and Variations-Rondo-Arrangement; An adaptation of a tune or musical composition.-Introduction; A preliminary musical phrase often 4-8 measures that occurs before the main part of the song.-Coda; Ending section of a piece.-Ostinato; A repeated melodic pattern that forms the basis of a rhythmic pad.-Vamp; A repeated musical phrase often used to kill time in anticipation of the next cued section. Timbre-The distinctive tone color or individual sound of an instrument or voice.-Bright/Dark: Heavy/Light-Thin/Full: Nasal/Robust-Shake, Trill, Tremolo; Rapid alteration of two pitches.-Vibrato; A rapid pitch fluctuation of a tone.
