Use decals on part facesYou can place a decal on a model face for uses such as labels, brand name art, logos, and warranty seals. You insert an image in a sketch, use constraints and dimensions to position it, andthen select the image to apply as the decal.A decal usually is a stocked item and has its own part number. If so, create it as a part and use it in multiple assemblies. One way to do this is to create a thin part, such as an extruded surface and place the decal on the surface. If you create the decal on a part instead of a surface, use Delete Face on the Model tab and remove unneeded faces. The part is automatically converted to a surface. To create a decal Create a thin part (such as a surface), and then add an image to a part sketch to represent the decal. If you prefer, place a decal on a part face.1. Create a part file. On the default sketch, create a line, then click Return. Click Modeltab Create panel Extrude and extrude the line as a surface. Note: Make sure to create the extrusion the exact size of the decal image. If necessary, edit the sketch and resize the line, and then edit the feature to modify the extrusion distance.2. On the ribbon, click Model tab Sketch panel Create 2D Sketch and then select the extrusion face. 3. On the ribbon, click Sketch tab Insert panel Image. Browse to locate a .bmp, .doc, or .xls file to represent the decal, and then click OK. 4. In the graphics window, click to place the image, and then right-click and click Done. If desired, right-click the image in the graphics window. Use options in the Image Properties dialog box to reorient the image if needed. Click Use Mask to create a transparent background for the decal. 5. Use dimension and constraint commands to position the image, and then right-clickand select Done. Right-click again and select Finish Sketch. 6. On the ribbon, click Model tab Create panel Decal. Set the following: o Click Image to select the decal image. Resize if needed although the image retains its original aspect ratio. o Click Face and select the face on which to apply the decal. o Click Wrap to Face to conform the decal to a curved face. Clear the check box to project the decal image instead of wrapping. o Click Chain Faces to place decal across adjacent faces such as a fillet or overan edge.7. When the decal is applied as desired, click OK.Note: The decal image distorts when projected on an irregular surface or adjacent faces. The amount of distortion increases the closer the faces are to being perpendicular because the image is projected. To place a decal on assembly components When a decal must span a seam across parts in an assembly, create a thin-walled part the same size as the decal.1. In the assembly file, right-click, and then select Place Component. Browse to the appropriate directory, select the part file containing the decal, and then click OK. 2. On the Assemble tab, add work features as necessary to assist with decal placement. 3. On the ribbon, click Assemble tab Position panel Constrain to add assembly constraints as necessary to position the decal. If you prefer, convert an assembly to a derived part, and then apply the decal to the part. Note: If you use the decal in multiple assemblies, you can create iMates to simplify positioning the
