MATH 251-504: Calculus IIIFall 2008CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Vector algebra, calculus of functions of sev-eral variables, partial derivatives, directional derivatives, gradient, mul-tiple integration, line and surface integrals, Stokes’ theorems.PREREQUISITES: Math 152 (Calculus II) or equivalent.CREDITS: 3 credits.(Credit will not be given for more than one of MATH221, 251 and 253.)TEXTBOOK: Calculus: Early Vectors (Aggie Version), by Stewart, Brooks/Cole,ISBN 0534493483. This course covers Chapters 11 − 14.INSTRUCTOR: Dr Oksana Shatalov, Blocker 629F, (979) 862-4479.Email : shatalov AT math.tamu.eduTIME AND PLACE: HELD 107, MW 4.10-5.25pm.OFFICE HOURS: (subject to change) M 11:30-12:30, W 10:30-12:30 andby appointment.EXAMS: There will be three one hour exams tentatively on Monday 9/22,Wednesday 10/22, Monday 11/24 and a final exam on Monday Decem-ber 8, 3.30-5:30 p.m.Calculators: Calculators will not be allowed on tests.Bring your ID for the exams!Grade Ingredients: Three in class exams (20% for two highest,10% forlowest scores), cumulative final exam (30%) and weekly homework(20%).GRADING:Percentage of points Grade90% and higher A80% and higher B70% and higher C60% and higher DLess than 60% F(I have been known to curve final grades if I feel that it is warranted.)1ATTENDANCE: Attendance is one of your responsibilities for the class.Iwill take daily attendance, and may use this information in decidingborderline grades. Come to class on time.MAKE-UP POLICY: Make-ups for missed quizzes, home assignmentsand exams will only be allowed for a university approved excuse inwriting. Wherever possible, students should inform the instructor be-fore an exam or quiz is missed. Consistent with University StudentRules , students are required to notify an instructor by the end of thenext working day after missing an exam or quiz. If there are con-firmed circumstances that do not allow this (a written confirmation isrequired), the student has two working days to notify the instructor.Otherwise, they forfeit their rights to a make-up.LATE WORK POLICY: No late work will be accepted unless there is auniversity approved excuse in writing.GETTING HELP: First, if you have a question, do not hesitate to askbefore, after, or during a class. Second, I encourage you to attendmy office hours to get individual help. You do not need an appoint-ment to come to regular office hours. If your schedule does not permityou to come to the announced office hours, send me an e-mail withyour schedule and we will make an appointment to meet at some otherday/time.GRADE COMPLAINTS: Sometimes the instructor might make a mis-take grading your work. If you feel that this has happened, you haveone week since the graded work was handed back to you to talk to theinstructor. If a mistake is confirmed, the grade will be changed.
