Lab Policy: • You are guaranteed a workstation during your assigned lab session. During that time, if you cannot find a free workstation to work on, notify me immediately. At all other times, workstation availability is not guaranteed. • Do not lock your workstation. If I find any workstation locked by a DSD student I will deduct 10 points from that student's last lab. • Lab assignments are due ONE WEEK from your assigned lab time unless otherwise noted. • You must submit your lab report along with required materials in an MSU folder. • I will take 15 points off your lab grade for each late day for lab submission. This does not include Saturdays and Sundays, e.g. if a lab assignment due on Friday is handed in on the following Monday, it will be counted as one day late. • Academic dishonesty is a very serious matter. Plagiarized labs/lab reports will be given a zero, and the department will be notified. • No food and drink are allowed in the lab. • Students must accrue 60% of the laboratory points to pass this class. All labs must be turned in, even if they are late. If more than 2 labs are not turned in, a grade of F will result in this class. • Labs, which are one week late, will not get any credit. Tips: 1. Before attending lab, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the UNIX system’s basic functions (e.g. directory structure, how to delete files, create directories etc). This will save you a lot of hassle when the lab assignments are given. 2. Writing VHDL code is similar to programming. Expect to spend some time debugging your code. If you receive an error message, make note of it, and try to figure out what is wrong and rectify it. If you cannot locate the problem after trying, notify me and I will help you debug your program. Youwill not learn much if you delegate all your debugging work to me. Do not hesitate to mail your concerns. 3. Attempt to finish your lab assignment at least 3 days before it is due. That way if you run into problems you still have time to fix them. Lab grading scheme: 70% - Completion of design; both functionality and constraints. 30% - Lab Report – the report should answer any questions posed in the lab assignment, and give a description of any problems encountered during performance of the lab. Include your name, Lab section #, TA name, and Lab assignment Title/Number. Provide answers in COMPLETE SENTENCES that are grammatically correct. The TAs will take points off for incorrectly spelled words and obvious grammatical errors. There is no page requirement, so do not pad your answers with extraneous material. At the same time, ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ answers are not acceptable. Justify the answers that you provide. Late Submissions: • 15 points (out of 100 points) deducted for each late day. Saturdays and Sundays not penalized. • If lab is turned in on the due date but at the end of the lab session instead of the beginning, 5 points are deducted. • Failure to turn in a lab report in a proper MSU folder will result in a deduction of 10 points from your grade. Lab reports should be neatly typed and should be turned in inside Mississippi State University, College of Engineering folders. The bookstore has these; buy 10 of them since you will be turning this many assignments. Refer to lab assignment sheets for what to include in the lab report in addition to the analysis section. I repeat academic dishonesty is a very serious offence. Consider yourself warned, after this there will be no more warning. OFF CAMPUS STUDENTS: You are required to enroll in a lab section, so you should submit your lab reports electronically to your lab instructor by the time they are due as if you were on campus.
