LucretiusCurrent Lecture1/28/14- Psyc majors: go see One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest-February 20th (Thursday) at 7pm- Karma and Reincarnationo Karma refers to good or bad actions a person takes during their lifetimeo Good actions, which involve either the absence of bad actions, or actual positive acts, such as generosity, righteousness, and mediation, bring about happiness in the long runo Bad actions, like lying, stealing or killing, bring about unhappiness in the long runo The weight that actions carry is determined by 5 conditions: frequent, repetitive action, determined, intentional action; action performed without regret; action against extraordinary persons; and actions toward those who have helped one in the pasto Karma is an assessment of character. Plane of Reincarnationo ‘you get what’s coming to you’- Life is a circle of sufferingo The more good karma you have, you will be reborn closer to Nirvanao When you reach enlightenment, you can die and stay deado Only humans can reach NirvanaThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
