COURSE SYLLABUS COURSE DESCRIPTION The course is a graduate credit option offered in conjunction with the AGTS pre-General Council seminar “Models of Multi-Site Ministry.” It will focus on a variety of ways in which local churches are extending their ministry to evangelize geographically and demographically diverse peoples. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the course the participant should be able to: 1. Identify and describe several effective multi-site ministry models being used by local churches. 2. Evaluate the distinctives of multi-site ministry models so as to determine which of them might apply to his/her own ministry context. 3. Develop a plan for implementing a multi-site approach in his/her own ministry context. Pre-Session 1. Reading requirement: From the recommended reading list, read the number of pages prescribed by the credit option below and prepare a bibliographic reading report noting the number of pages read in each source. 2 Credit Option – 300 pages. 3 Credit Option – 500 pages. DUE DATE: July 25, 2005 (Must be e-mailed to the professor by this date). NOTE: Pre-session work received after this date will be subject to a letter grade reduction pro-rated according to the time of its final submission. B. Session 1. Full attendance at the pre-General Council seminar, “Models of Multi-Site Ministry,” on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. is required. C. Post-Session 1. Reading requirements: Prepare a bibliographic reading report noting the texts, articles, or webpages (200 words) read and the number of pages in each. 2 Credit Option – 1000 pages total (including pre-session). 3 Credit Option – 1500 pages total (including pre-session). 2. Prepare a personal reflection paper on the seminar that incorporates the following: a. The key components that were most meaningful to you. b. An evaluation of these components with a view toward how they intersect (or not) with your current ministry context. 2 Credit Option – 3-5 pages. 3 Credit Option – 5-8 pages. 3. Prepare an action plan for implementing a multi-site model of ministry in your own context. The paper should demonstrate the integration of the seminar and course reading into the ministry development plan. The paper should contain the following elements: a. An introductory presentation of the new ministry target group. (1-2 pages) b. An evaluation of the type of model chosen to reach this group with an assessment of why this choice will be the most effective model. (3-5 pages) c. A strategic plan for the resource development and the ministry implementation necessary for beginning this new model. (5-8 pages) d. A projection of the impact that this new ministry model will have upon your current ministry setting. (3-5 pages) 2 Credit Option – 12-15 pages. 3 Credit Option –18-20 pages. DUE DATE: November 4, 2005. (All projects must be e-mailed to the professor by this date)NOTE: Work submitted after this date will be subject to a letter grade reduction pro-rated according to the time of final submission.
