ADHD
Disability in which children consistently show one or more of the following characteristics over a period of time: -Inattention -Hyperactivity -Impulsivity This disorder occurs as much as 4-9 times as much in boy as in girls
Giften children
-Exceptional intellectual strength -usually measured by high IQ -Used to be solely based on IQ of above 130 -Many can be identified as early as toddlerhood -May have real issues in areas outside of their expertise
Creative children
-Ability to produce novel responses that are valued by others -Divergent v. convergent thinking -Flow: the idea that if we are encouraged to succeed in one area, we will attempt more difficult tasks/ achieved through encouraging skills Creativity tapers off as we age
Talented children
-Outstanding performance in a specific field -Measured by divergent thinking and creativity
Divergent thinking
The ability to come up with numerous solutions in situations where there is no right answers
Convergent thinking
The ability to converge on the best answer to a problem
