Note: The first essay can be resubmitted to try to improve the grade initially earned on it. The submitted rewrite of the essay must be turned in within one class meeting after the return date. If the original due date is missed, the privilege of "resubmit" is forfeited. Late Work: Assignments are due at the beginning of class of the assigned due date. If arrangements for an absence have been made prior to due date, the assignment should be turned in by class time. (It can be sent electronically or placed in my mail box in C 201.) Assignments submitted late will receive a letter grade deduction for each class period tardy. Attendance Policy: Attendance is absolutely necessary in order to do well in English 1301. The participation grade which is 25% of the final grade is directly linked to absences/tardies. If for some reason you are unable to attend class due to an emergency, it is imperative to notify me by email or phone message. An open line of communication is vital to your success in this class. Withdrawal (W) Date: Withdrawing from a course is a formal procedure that the student must initiate; the instructor cannot do it for the student. If the student stops attending a class without formally withdrawing, a performance grade must be issued, and usually it will be an "F." The last day to withdraw from a course for this semester with a "W" is November 17. Drop Six Statement: For students who enrolled in college-level courses for the first time in the fall of 2007, Texas Education code 51.907 limits the number of courses a student may drop. You may drop no more than six (6) courses during your entire undergraduate career unless the drop qualifies as an exception. The Eastfield College Advising Center will give you more information on the allowable exceptions. Remember that once you have accumulated six (6) non-exempt drops, you cannot drop any other courses with a "W." Therefore, exercise caution when dropping courses in any Texas public institution of higher learning, including all seven of the Dallas County Community Colleges. For more info, access http://www.1.dcccd.edu/cat0910//ss/oep/dw.cfm.Writing Format Expectation: All type writing assignments must be formatted according to MLA Style and all sources must be document following the guidelines for MLA Source Citation. Financial Aid Students: If you are receiving financial aid grants or loans, you must begin attendance in all classes. Do not drop or stop attending any class without consulting the Financial Aid Office. Changes in your enrollment level and failing grades may require that you repay financial aid funds. Failure to contact the instructor will result in your name being submitted to the Financial Aid Office as a "non-attendee." Students who fail to attend after the drop date are also subject to this policy. Student Email: Legal privacy issues prevent an instructor from discussing a student's work or grades on commercial email accounts. If you wish to send a paper as an attachment to an email (by prior arrangement with instructor) or if you have a question about a grade, you must open a student email account. The account is free and may be set up by visiting www.dcccd.edu; Student Services; Online Services; Student NetMail. All students receiving financial aid must open a student NetMail account.
