METBD 110 Hands-On 15Application of Drag, Trim and Extend FeaturesSketchingWhy:Learning Objectives:Performance Criteria:Resources in addition to Previous Reading Assignments, Hands-On Web Sites, Other Students, Class Notes, and Instructor:Plan:Why:When designing a part, sometimes it is faster to drag one or more entities to a new location. Trim and extend features are editing tools used to detail 2D sketcher objects. By using the trim and extend features, rough sketches may be edited for clarity and/or constraint reasons. Using the trim and extend functions properly is critical. Doing so will help eliminate errors when trying to extrude, revolve, etc., the sketch. Learning Objectives:- Open existing Pro/E sketch files and close Pro/E sketch files. - Apply Trim features where necessary- Apply Extend features when necessary.- Understand how the trim and extend features impact the geometry/model.Performance Criteria:- Drag entities about the screen.- Use the trim and extend features correctly.- Constraints are modified as necessary to allow trim and extend.- Understand importance of proper use of the trim and extend functions Resources in addition to Previous Reading Assignments, Hands-On Web Sites, Other Students, Class Notes, and Instructor:8//19/02 1 of 3METBD 110 Hands-On 15Application of Drag, Trim and Extend Features- Pro/ENGINEER Related Information Basic Start Up Functions - Pro/E and web file management, trim/extend, terminology, display preferences links only.- Tutors.- SI (Supplemental Instructor).Plan: 1. Access the Pro_E courseware datadisk.2. Using Windows Explorer, copy the sketch files Drag-1.sec, Drag-2.sec, Trim-extend-1, Trim-extend-2, and Trim-extend-3.sec from the PRO_E folder on ‘PSBDFILESRVR’ (V:)\METBD_110\pro-e to your P drive.3. Start Pro/ENGINEER.4. Set your working directory to your P-drive. 5. Open the appropriate file.6. Rename the file to ‘yourlastname-drag-x’ (with X being the drag problem number) i.e., Smith-drag-1. (File – Rename – type in the new name – OK)7. Turn dimensions off to avoid confusion! 8. Leave the endpoints turned on to help find errors.9. Complete each of the following sketch files. a. Drag-1 i. Drag the entity or endpoint(s) to make the left column match the right column.ii. Save the sketch. (File – Save – Ok. You cannot rename a file when using the save command.) iii. Close the file. Close the file by clicking on the Continue icon.b. Drag-2i. Leave the dimensions on.ii. Drag one entity and watch how the shape changes, repeat for several lines. iii. Drag one endpoint and watch how the shape changes, repeat for several endpoints.iv. Select all the entities, so they are all red, select one of the horizontal lines and move the L-shaped sketch around the screen noting where you can drag it and where you can’t.v. Repeat step iv, but select a vertical line and move the L-shaped sketch around the screen.vi. Repeat step iv, but select an endpoint and move the L-shaped sketch around the screen. Try another endpoint.vii. Save the sketch.viii. Close the file.c. Trim-extend-1. Learning to correctly trim and extend is VERY important, make sure you understand this command.i. Turn the dimensions off.ii. Make sure you USE the Trim and Extend features to make the left column match the right column.1. Check your work by zooming in on the intersection and looking for sharp corners, intersections, etc.!! If you try to out fox your instructor by redrawing the lines or dragging them, you will have a high degree of difficulty when we start creating parts.8//19/02 2 of 3If gray or yellow constraints (circles) are showing in column B, you must have one showing in column A.Zoom In Correct Zoom In Incorrect. The endpoints were dragged into position instead of trimmed.2. You may drag an endpoint to extend it past the line you are trimming to, but do not break lines or add points.iii. Save the sketch.iv. Close the file.d. Trim-extend-2i. Repeat steps c.i – iv.e. Trim-extend-3.i. Repeat steps c.i – iv.1. Sometimes a constraint (gray or yellow) prevents you fromtrimming, extending or dragging an entity properly. For examplein the figure to the right, a co-linear constraint was automaticallyadded between the line and the letter A. Select the constraint, itshould turn red, the press the Delete key.10. When finished, ask your instructor to review your results.8//19/02 3 of
