Ed. 225 – Exceptional Child GROUP PRESENTATION The Group Presentation allows you to research a selected topic in a variety of ways; electronic, print, organizations, interviews, audio visual media, CDROM, etc. It provides an opportunity to: ü work in a cooperative setting ü design and deliver a stimulating account of your research and knowledge of the topic ü evaluate your own and your peers’ skills in a cooperative setting and teaching experience The outcomes for the Group Presentation are to: ü Exhibit professional behaviors in planning and presenting your topic ü Demonstrate evidence of scholarly research ü Present knowledge of the subject area in an organized, accurate, detailed and creative manner ü Use technological applications in the presentation ü Be articulate in the presentation of information ü Design an informative and attractive handout ü Assess individual and group work PART I – PREPARATION When the group assembles, complete handout #1 so members will know how to communicate with each other and know their responsibilities. SELECT A COORDINATOR OF THE GROUP. The coordinator will arrange meetings, discuss topics or problems with the professor, keep the group focused and make certain a rehearsal meeting is schedule prior to the presentation. REHEARSE YOUR PRESENTATION! If you want to practice in the classroom please schedule a time with me. PART II – PRESENTATION You will have 30 minutes for your presentation. Include the following: ARRIVE TO CLASS AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY TO SET UP! ü Introduce the members and their responsibilities. Use PowerPoint, white board, poster, etc. with students’ names so the audience will be able to complete accurate individual evaluations. ü Explain (teach) your topic. Remember, after all your researching, select the most relevant and useful information to share with the class. ü Document where you gathered your information. (Place on PowerPoint, handout, orally, etc.) ü Use technology applications. ü Be creative and informative. ü Include class participation. ü Share test questions. ü Evaluate the class at the conclusion of the presentation to see what they learned from your teaching. This can take a variety of formats; oral, written, thumbs up, observation, etc. PART III – HANDOUT Prepare a handout (one page) of selected information that you believe would be useful to the class. It might be an outline of the presentation, definition of the topic, websites, etc. Microsoft Word has a Newsletter Wizard that you could use. Include the names of presenters and test questions!
