The Preamble - “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”- Head of the body. States purposes of Constitution. - Not created by sovereign independent nations - Who were the people? At first property owning white males, then it became all American citizens.II. U.S. Constitution Article IV, Section 1- States required to give “Full Faith and Credit.” o If all the states decided they all agree with each other then the Supreme court has to bow down. - Section 2: Citizen rights are the same in all states. o Extradition mandated. o This makes it to where criminals can’t flee from one state to get away from the crime. o Same goes for marriage; all the states have to recognize it that way if you get married in one state and move you don’t have to get remarried. This works with divorce as well. o This does not go for gay marriage. All states do not recognize it. In one case a couple got married then they moved and got into a fight and wanted a divorce, These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.so they went to the court in Texas, where they moved but Texas said they couldn’t do that because they didn’t acknowledge that the couple was married in the first place. o In Texas you can go to prison for a crime faster than any other state. With guns they allow you to carry them in certain places as long as you follow the laws. But in other states it is against the law. SO learn what your rights are. o Criminals only had to run from the sheriff to another state line to get away. Now we have rules that makes those states give us are wanted criminals back. o Whether it’s a civil or liberal case if an accused flees a state jurisdiction for another state to avoid a charge when that individual is found, and they will be found, they have now committed a federal crime and where ever they are found the governor of that state must contact the governor of the other state. The criminal is then given a trial in the state they were found and ultimately brought back to the original state. III. Article IV, Section 3 - Only Congress can admit new states. o Alaska was almost not admitted because people thought it was too democratic.Same goes with Hawaii, they thought it was too Republican. - States cannot alter themselves, such as subdivision or join other states without Congress approval. o Texas is the only state that has preauthorization to subdivide itself. - Only Congress can dispose of U.S.
