Squid Long Slender body 8 long arms and 2 tentacles Crayfish Large pincers 2 main segments Earthworm Segmented body Long and cylindrical Grasshopper 2 pairs of wings 3 fused segments Brown planaria 2 eyes spots bilaterally symmetric Vinegar Eel transparent body longitudal muscles Major Evolutionary Changes in Protostomes throughout history and how they are shaped today There are many different Evolutionary changes that happened in protostomes These include Evolution of bilaterality development of triploblastic body plans formation of a body cavity coelom specialization of digestive system diversification of locomotor structures Development of sensory organs and nervous system adaptation to different ecological niches evolution of reproductive strategies radiation and speciation events Co evolution with other organisms These events are listed in order and occurred from 635 to just a few million years ago Although they are listed in order many occurred simultaneously as protostomes adapted One of the major events that caused diversification is the oxygen revolution This allowed for protostomes to leave the water and become dependent on oxygen which is a way more energy efficient way of living They also adapted to regional specialization which refers to a certain body part having a set duty or task This includes organs and nervous tissue which are regionally specialized with the protostomes Cephalization builds on top of this making all sensory organs go to the anterior head part of the protostome in question The 2 added traits for the organisms in lab are as followed Vinegar eels transparent body longitudal muscles Squid Long Slender body 8 long arms and 2 tentacles Crayfish Large pincers 2 main segments Earthworm Segmented body Long and cylindrical Grasshopper 2 pairs of wings 3 fused segments Brown planaria 2 eyes spots bilaterally symmetric
