Evolutionary changes present For this lab we dissected the following specimens frog sea cucumber and a perch We observed their anatomies and classified their individual features The organisms are in the Echinodermata and Chordata phylum and looking at the different features helped us classify their evolutionary changes shown in the phylogeny tree made The first difference shown is the presence of a notochord in the Chordates which Echinoderms don t have The organisms classified in this group would include the sea cucumber and sea star These organisms are radially symmetrical unique since the rest of the organism doesn t obtain this quality These organisms have protection and structure from the presence of an endoskeleton created from ossicles and a calcite mesodermal skeleton The next trait given in the phylogeny tree was the presence of a head and a vertebral column The organism included with this trait was the Lancelet and the other organisms Lamprey was the next organism in the tree and I added the traits of endostyle thyroid which regulates growth and development and a postanal tail which stabilizes balance for the species Following the next given trait was jaws swim bladder lungs which are present in the perch frog and snakes The trait that I added for the perch was that it has a bony spine The bony spine gives support and structure to the organism Four limbs is another given trait included in the tree and that is present in the frog and snakes I included cutaneous respiration for the frog which gives a supply of blood vessels to the skin The last trait given was the presence of an amniotic egg which is present in the snake I included the characteristics of an olfactory organ which gives them the sense of smell All these characteristics on the phylogenetic tree show the evolutionary changes between the species and how they adapt to different environments from their different features The organisms different features illustrated to us how species adapt to their environment to make sure they would survive These adaptations are from the evolutionary characteristics to help them survive in their environment
