Running head QUALITY MANAGEMENT 1 QUALITY Management HCS 451 QUALITY MANAGEMENT 2 QUALITY Management The Purpose of quality management is to monitor the quality of health care services The purpose for quality management is to improve the care of the patients and reduce liability among the staff and the patients In following quality management protocols company s can reduce lawsuits and reduce injuries Quality management can build a future for the company with reputable service for everyone Turnover prevention involves many aspects in quality management In order for the company to grow and maintain its consistency the company will need to reduce its staff When companies incorporate different incentives this will reduce the turnover rate Organizations can develop incentive packages to retain their employees Kaluzny 2006 Several organizations have encouraged education training and growth within the company Employees will be dedicated when they know that if they work hard they will receive great rewards beyond their paycheck Hence in essence when employers offer incentives for their employees there will be a continuance growth Micromanagement is another aspect of quality management which is under the same umbrella of management Micromanagement pays attention to detail which will also help with risk management and quality management Micromanagement can be used in every organization but in health care it can be extremely beneficial Micromanagement helps companies have a step by step process along the way it helps eliminate risk and increase quality care Health care quality and risk management are important not only for the success of the business but also for the health of both patient and caregiver By monitoring every aspect of health care it can reduce the amounts of accidents and malpractice lawsuit QUALITY MANAGEMENT 3 Overall effective management is necessary when dealing with quality management within organizations Kaluzny 2006 It is very important for companies to oversee the day to day operation within the company Ensuring that the staff is in the proper departments in which they work and that they are on task and being productive There are so many ways that companies can use and maintain effective management For instance have employees be held accountable for their actions Enforcing rules and policies to help eliminate lateness and the abuse of sick days Effective time management is important when it comes to maintaining a company and keeping up with daily task Hence staying on schedule and maintaining a set time for everything is important This is especially important for those who work under management If the employees are not checked in on when returning from a break or lunch then that is time lost and money lost for the company It is also important to utilize an employee s time wisely Wiley 2009 Supervisors want to make sure that each employee has been train to do his her job It is also important that managers know who is proficient with a particular skill For instance if a charge nurse needs a nurse to obtain an IV for a patient it would be in vain to ask a nurse who is horrible at starting IV s Although the charge nurse is over other nurses she should be aware who is good at a particular task Time management also decreases the financial risk of needed to hire more people to fill positions that should be able to be accomplished by one person Time management is a key in finding the best possible way to make an organization run smoothly and quickly Productivity is essential in time management it allows for important things to get done in a timely fashion QUALITY MANAGEMENT 4 There are many different names one can use to describe quality management Quality management names are use to determined the meaning of a project or issue For instance one would know that medical records refer to the patient s chart However when one says that they need information on payroll that would have to do with the employees of the organization Typical long term goals for hospitals could be expansion offering more services and quality management and assurance Short term goals to reach the long term goals could be funding more medical equipment and surveys A hospital would need funding for new equipment expansions or services so a look over the financial situation of the hospital would be needed Finding areas to add funding cut funding or do fundraising could then be approached Furthermore quality assurance and management there are several short term goals such as questionnaires quality and risk management Wasik M 2006 Affordability should be applied to the hospital setting There have been many patients that are in the hospital on an extended stay and they are not able to afford such things like a television in their room or maybe the patient does not have family and they are on a fixed income The hospital should have a policy in place that allows the hospital to go into a fund that is set up for patients that are in need Hospitals should apply policies within their organizations that benefit the community and staff A policy should be in place to ensure people can receive care that is affordable In most cases hospitals have state funding that allows for those without insurance to be treated S if they have the funding available to have money set aside for those who need comforting things to take their mind off of their illness Internal influences that can affect quality in a QUALITY MANAGEMENT 5 hospital setting can be employee s performance time management safety measures and training External influences that can affect quality can be miscommunication interpretation not relaying all the information and more An employee s performance can affect the organization whether poor or good Employee s who have a poor performance rating can have a negative effect on the company Outsourcing can have a negative impact on the company for many reasons one being culture and language barrier Organizations should keep these factors in mind when outsourcing their work In many cases several companies have outsource their work to other countries because it is inexpensive then paying their employees It cuts their work force in half but does it really save time and money Oftentimes with the language barrier being a problem it makes it hard to get things accomplish Safety policies should be in effect so to ensure that many will be safe at their place of employment Simons 2008 Hygiene is very important for the staff as
