Week 9 Capstone DQ Due Wednesday June 24 2009 Subject line Week 9 Capstone DQ Your Name Please post your reply to the following Capstone Discussion Question How has this course impacted your impressions of what to expect personally and professionally as you enter a career in education This course has impacted my impression of what to expect personally and professionally as I start my career in teaching by showing me that there are mentoring and induction programs that will help me make the transition to the classroom easier and smoother I have also started to consider what type of teacher I would like to be I have begun to get active in looking for a position within the district I wish to teach I would not have known I was able to do this if I had not taken this class Through this class I have been able to determine how to be more professional when it pertains to my attitude appearance my resume and my portfolio when I go form an interview I have also come to realize I need to be an active part of programs designed for furthering my professional and personal growth so that I can be successful in my teaching career Response 2 I see a lot more support than I originally thought for new teachers through induction and mentoring programs Also my personal organizational abilities and life experiences will come into play quite often I love a challenge it helps to keep me young and that is what I think this particular career will do I will definitely need more schooling perhaps a degree in psychology when I finish with this one just to help me understand more about how children act and different ways to help them with issues in their home and social circles I come from a large tight knit family we just celebrated my great nephew s first birthday this past week so life experience have prepared me for interacting with children Also I am no stranger to the politics of the school district having driven a school bus for Tulsa public schools for a year before deciding I wanted to get my degree in teaching I do not jump into things this was thought out before deciding I wanted to teach What I expect is to be very busy and to learn more everyday as a teacher Something everyone needs when they get older to help them keep a sharp mind This course showed me many ways to stay organized and how to find help when needed Response 3 I will have to say this course has taught me a lot when it come to teaching and education Personally it has taught me that my reasoning s for becoming a teacher were false I had decided to pursue being a teacher over nursing because I felt that being a teacher was more of a family oriented job I could spend more time with my family and not work crazy hours When in a sense if you try to be the best teacher it is a life not a job whereas nursing once you are off of work you are off and you do not have to bring work home with you Professionally this course has helped me see the great need for heartfelt teachers and the impact it can make on children s lives It has helped me see how education has evolved and is still evolving and how teachers can make a difference if they try in the legal portion Professionally it has also shown me that being a teacher has a lot to give and take Being a teacher is like walking on a blind road you can hope to have a wonderful class and to know how the year is going to work but every day brings a new situation
