Response 6 1 Odysseus starts off talking about how he believes it is the Achaians fate to die in Troy if Achilleus doesn t fight with them and asks him to rescue them from the onslaught He tells him that his father Peleus advised him to stay away from quarrels and be considerate rather than hateful He also lists all the things Agamemnon will give him as compensation Lastly he tells him that if his hatred for Agamemnon is too much he should at least help them out of pity for the other Achaians and that he will win glory among them and be seen as a god 2 Achilleus responds that he will not fight with them because of his hatred for Agamemnon Agamemnon is very unfair and takes many war prizes for himself leaving little for those who actually fought for them He says that he is sailing back home and that others should too and should turn against Agamemnon in anger 3 I think that Achilleus argument is more compelling because he has many experiences that fuel his hate for Agamemnon While Odysseus argument that he should pity for the other Achaians was compelling they did not want him until they felt that they would lose without him Achilleus reasoning for not joining them in fighting is based on good reasoning and he should not go against his reasoning and fight for a King and with a group of people who take him for granted
