1 The Goddess Movement claims that human society and religion began with the worship of a goddess and draws attention to the fact that female images are neglected with some writers claiming that archaeologists and historians willfully ignore evidence of female power 2 The movement developed in the 1970s when Marija Gimbutas works gave authority to the story of goddess religion and other specialists and non specialists have followed to show that past worship of goddesses was supplanted by male religions 3 The people who are studying these ancient religions are viewing things in different ways for a few reasons The first is that they are looking at past societies with the personal and societal views of todays societies The other reason is that some may not be taking into account all of the context and are forming opinions without looking at the whole picture and taking everything into account
