Lane Cervantes Response 8 1 Achilles upon hearing of the death of his friend Patroclus then decides that he will forget all about his grudge against Agamemnon and begins too aid them in battle again He is very eager to begin fighting so much so that he doesn t even care about the prophecy that foretold his death Agamemnon tries to give him all that he promised earlier but Achilles doesn t care anything about that Zeus foretold that all of this would happen in the 15th book The reason for this seems to be more of a literary device for Homer to foreshadow the coming doom As a reader it seems somewhat effective in this respect now that we know what will happen it is simply a matter of watching how it will unfold 2 The fight with the river seems to be an instance that is designed to emphasize Achilles power He is such a great warrior that he is able to contend with a god or godlike entity It seems to be used to emphasize and add to the glory of Achilles 3 It seems like it was a reasonable conclusion to the story The death of Hector represent the resolution of one of the story s major plot point the adversarial relationship of Hector and Achilles Though the story does leave off with a bit of a cliffhanger seeing as that it was foretold many times that Achilles would die but he remains alive at the conclusion of the story The story of the Trojan horse does not appear either
