1 The proem is the beginning when Hesiod is a Sheppard and encounters the nine muses They are singing the stories of the race of gods and teaches them to Hesiod 2 The program is the next part of the poem that gives us the content and divides it into the genealogical first part and the historical second part 3 The first digression is the non narrative which shows Zeus distribution of honors and is Hesiod s attempt at diverting the audience from the usual distribution The narrative digressions are basically fillers because they don t fit into the succession story 4 Hesiod uses Zeus oriented stories instead of the usual stories or the division between Zeus Poseidon and Hades and effaced the story of Zeus using the promise of honor to obtain allies
