Instructor: Caroline Lavelock, M.S., [email protected] OBJECTIVES:1. Make the history of psychology relevant to the current state of the field and project contemporary developments to the future of psychology.MY JOB: 1. Teach you material related to the history of psychology and try to make it at least a little bit entertaining. 2. Hold you to high standards for professional and academic behavior in the senior capstone class in psychology. 3. Respond to e-mails in a timely fashion and do everything I can to make myself available to meet with you to discuss any concerns you may have about class, life after graduation, etc.YOUR JOB: 1. SHOW UP. This course is a REQUIREMENT for our department, and it should therefore be a HIGH PRIORITY for you. Do not purposefully schedule conflicting events with class time. I understand that life happens, so it may be that you have to make some choices over the course of the semester regarding the balance between school and your life outside of school. Make these choices wisely and hold yourself responsible for them. By missing class, you accept that you may miss the transmission of valuable information (course material or logistics) that might not be available in other mediums (Blackboard, e-mail). 2. Download lectures on the day that I give them. You can find them under the Course Documents tab on Blackboard. Each lecture will become UNAVAILABLE for download at 5:00pm on the day it is given. This may sound silly, but trust me – it keeps you on the ball. 3. Check e-mail and blackboard frequently AND correspond professionally with myself and with my T.A. As a senior in psychology, we hold you to high standards of communication and expect you to conduct yourself as if you are an adult on the job. Grades, lectures, and other tools and materials will be available to students on Blackboard. The address is http://blackboard.vcu.edu/. To log in, use your user name for your VCU e-mail account. 4. Since sadly, mindreading doesn’t fall under the realm of a graduate degree in psychology, PLEASE communicate with me or my T.A. if something is going on that is affecting your performance in class at the earliest possible time that you can. While your information is yours to share, it is immensely helpful for you to let us know if you are dealing with an illness, loss in the family, etc. so that we can best help you to succeed in class under difficult circumstances.OTHER STUFF:Virginia Commonwealth UniversitySpring 2015Psychology Department Course SyllabusCOURSE INFORMATION:PSYC 451:001 History of Psychology: MCALC Room 2100; MWF 3:00-3:50 pm.Instructor: Caroline Lavelock, M.S., [email protected] Assistant: Jessie Greenlee, [email protected] hours: by appointmentRECOMMENDED (NOT REQUIRED) TEXTBOOK:Schulz, D.
