Regardless of one’s profession, their job and their overall quality of life is influenced to some significant degree by marketing. The fundamental objectives for this course are to provide students with an understanding of marketing’s role across various aspects of society, and a substantive introduction to the discipline of marketing as practiced within an organization. Students completing the course will have an appreciation for marketing role and impact on a society’s economy, and an understanding of marketing’s role in the operation of a business or organization. The course grade will be calculated one of two ways: 1. The four exam scores + online assignments + class participation + any extra credit; or 2. The final exam score + online assignments + class participation + any extra credit Exams 600 points (4 @ 150 points each) or Final 600 points Online Assignments 240 points (10 @ 24 points each) Class Participation 160 points (20 @ 8 points each) TOTAL 1,000 points GRADING SCALE: GRADE TOTAL POINTS GRADE TOTAL POINTS 4.0 900 – 1,000 2.0 700 - 749 3.5 850 – 899 1.5 650 - 699 3.0 800 – 849 1.0 600 - 649 2.5 750 - 799 If a student takes all four exams and the final, then their score will be calculated both ways and they will receive whichever grade is higher. Each of the exams during the term will have 30 multiple-choice or true/false questions worth five points each. The final exam will have 60 multiple-choice or true/false questions worth ten points each. All class materials including films, readings, and guest speakers are eligible for exam questions. Students will be notified of their exam scores by email. The exams themselves will not be returned. Students are free though, to review exams, and go over results during office hours. They should bring a copy of the feedback form that was emailed to them during this visit. Each class will have a class agenda posted on D2L. This agenda lists the learning objectives for the class along with a summary of the key concepts covered and the key terms students will be responsible for. Seventy percent of exam questions are based on the class notes and the remaining thirty percent on definitions and bullet lists from the text. Any definition or elements of a bullet list that is addressed on an exam will be identified under the ‘Key Terms’ heading on one of the class agendas. Any concept that is addressed on an exam will be identified under the ‘Key Concepts’ heading on one of the class agendas, or summarized in the highlighted section. It is assumed that students read the assigned material, but after careful reading of all assigned material a thorough review and understanding of the material covered on these class agenda, along with the topics covered on the class participation quizzes will enable students to be very well prepared for the exams. Students MUST bring a photo ID (MSU ID with picture, driver's license, etc.) with them to the exam. Exam Scores WILL NOT BE RECORDED until proper identification has been presented. Students should also bring multiple pencils. MAKE-UP EXAMS will be given only if authorized by professor prior to the start of the exam in question. There will be no exceptions. Thus, if a student misses one of the term exams without prior authorization they will have to take the final. All make-up exams must be made at one of three designated time periods below. Make-Up Exam Schedule (Check Angel for Room Assignments) Exams 1 & 2 Friday, March 20th 2015 9:00 to 10:20 N022 BCC Exams 3 & 4 Friday May 1st, 2015 9:00 to 10:20 Eppley 116 Final Exam Wednesday May 6th, 2015 3:00 to 5:00 pm N130 BCC3No one will be able to take the exam if they arrive after one of the exams has been turned in. An arrival this late will be treated as an unauthorized absence. Again there will be no exceptions. ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS & CLASS PARTICIPATION The format for the course is lecture. Lectures are designed to complement and enhance the text. That is, to put key terms and concepts into a context that enhances students’ understanding. Thus class participation in the form of attendance and attentiveness is a critical part of the course. Class participation will be worth 16% of the course grade (or 160 points). The class
