KIN 291 1st Edition Lecture 5I. Heart a. The right side receives oxygen-poor blood from the body and tissues and then pumps it to the lungs.b. The left side receives oxygenated blood returning from the lungs and pumps it to the rest of the bodyc. Four Chambers:i. Two atria: divided by interatrial septum1. Right and Left atriumii. Two ventricles: divided by interventricular septum1. Left and Right ventricled. Two circulations:i. Systemic circuit: blood vessels that transport blood to and from all the body tissues.ii. Pulmonary circuit: blood vessels that carry blood to and from the lungs.II. Cardiac Structure:a. Pericardium: layer that covers the cardiac muscleb. Serous pericardium: elastic hard to move, prevents from overfillingc. Pericardial Cavity: space between parietal and visceral pericardiumi. Prevents friction (similar to the one in the lungs)d. Layers of the heart walli. Muscle of the heart with inner and outer membrane coveringsii. Muscle of heart= “myocardium”iii. The layers from out to in:1. Epicardium= visceral layer of serous pericardium2. Myocardium= the muscle3. Endocardium= the lining of the chambersThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.III. Valves of Hearta. Tricuspid valve: i. Right atrium to right ventricleb. Pulmonary valve: i. Right ventricle to pulmonary trunkc. Mitral valve “bicuspid”:i. left atrium to left ventricled. Aortic valve:i. Left ventricle to aortae. * Try it before you Buy it* IV. Relative thickness of muscular wallsa. Left ventricle is the thickest because it forces blood out against more resistance to get the systemic circulation.b. Atria are thin because the ventricular filling is done by gravity.V. Conduction systema. SA node (sinoatrial)b. Impulses from SA to atriac. Impulses also to AV node via intermodal pathwayd. AV nodei. In interatrial septume. SA node through AV bundlef. Contraction begins at apex (point end part of the heart)VI. Blood supply to Hearta. Infarction: depth area to the heartVII. After class additional notes for exam:a. Know which organ are in each digestive groupsb. Inspiration &Experationc. Memorize the Circulatory system Rap (Pump it up) to learn how the blood floods through the
