Description of Course Content: This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of the processes involved in effective functioning in the workplace. By the end of the course, students should have an understanding of the theories and research dealing with individual behavior in work environments. Furthermore, they should understand how one can apply such knowledge to attain organizational and individual goals. Topics covered will include: social perception, motivation, personality and its impact on the workplace, persuasion, interpersonal relationships, prejudice, discrimination, leadership and stress.Student Learning Outcomes: The goal of the course is to provide students with a basic background in the psychology of human relations.Required Textbook: Seta, C.E., Paulus, P.B., & Baron, R.A. (2000). Effective Human Relations: A Guide to People at Work, 4th Edition. Boston: Allyn and Bacon. Conley, P. Study Guide for Effective Human Relations (optional)Attendance Policy: Attendance will be taken sporadically throughout the course and if you are present those days I take attendance than you will receive 2 additional points on your final letter grade. Students will be accountable for all lecture material, and each examination will contain questions from the class readings and classroom lectures, therefore it will be imperative that you not miss class.Examinations: Four exams will be given throughout the semester. Each exam will be worth 100 points. The exams will be structured with a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions. Exam questions will be taken from class lectures and assigned readings. Make-up exams will only be administered if the student provides a University approved excuse.Grading Policy: There is a total of 400 points to be earned during this course:A = 400-360 points 100%-90% B = 359-320 points 89%-80% C = 319-280 points 79%-70%D = 279-240 points 69%-60%F = 239-200 points 59% and belowAmericans With Disabilities Act: The University of Texas at Arlington is on record as being committed to both the spirit and letter of federal equal opportunity legislation; reference Public Law 92-112 - The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended.
