Hardware, software, and communications issues are examined. Databases, enterprise resource planning systems, and other overarching applications are analyzed. Ethical issues of privacy and piracy are discussed. Class materials: 9 The World is Flat (either the original or the updated/expanded version) by Thomas Friedman Topics Include • the role of information technology in business • hardware and software - past, present, and future • technology enhanced communications and presentations • database management systems: reports and queries • ethical issues: piracy, privacy, professional codes of ethics Course Procedures: You are required to have a current UNCW computer account and you should frequently check that account for e-mail. E-mails to the class will also be sent to the addresses supplied to the Graduate Programs Office - it is your responsibility to be sure that e-mail address kept by that office is correct. Check the instructor’s Web site frequently.
