GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.saying Germany is going to take half of Poland and Russia can have the other half. Stalin agrees because he doesn’t have his head officials in the army anymore to stop Hitler.ll.Hitler attacks Poland on 9/1/1939. France and England declare war on Germany on 9/3/1939. Hitler declared war in September because he knew that wars are not fought in the winter so thisis called the sitting war, although Germany and Britain were not sitting, they were both getting their armies ready for war.A. The Germans attack France and this is called Blitzkrieg because it happened lightning fast. They make France surrender and they institute a puppet government in France. Now Britain is left to fight the Germans on their own.lll.In 1940 Britain had more naval bases around the world than anyone else. To help them out America exchanged some of our ships loaded with war materials for naval bases that were British. Diego Garcia is the main naval base we gain. However, the British still need more help sowe make a Lend-Lease deal with them. We gave the British bullets and tanks saying they would give them back, but we both knew we wouldn’t get them back. lV.FDR talks to Churchill saying that if America is to join the war we want Wilson’s 4 main points that we didn’t get in the previous war, so Britain would have to give up their colonies. Churchill agreed in 1940, but he had also talked to Stalin and they agreed that they would divide Europe between them after the war. In 1940 FDR runs on the campaign slogan “I will not send Americanboys to fight foreign wars”.V.In 1941 Nazis invade Russia and we extend our Lend-Lease deal to them. Japan radicals want to attack America, but Japan moderates don’t. FDR puts an embargo act on Japan and the radicals come to control Japanese government and plan an attack on America.A. Japan attacks Pearl Harbor on 12/7/1941. They bomb air strips and airplanes so they cankeep their advantage in the air then they bomb our navy in the water, which keeps our navy down for 6 months. This was the first time America was attacked.Vl.FDR declares war on Japan on 12/8/1941 and Germany and Italy declare war on America in return. Japan took over Pacific islands, so we had to take them back one by one which was very costly in lives and in money. Germany starts bombing London civilians at night and so when the British retaliate they bomb Germany at night and America bombs Germany during the day. The Russians are fighting with Germany over Stalingrad and the Russians finally win.A. In 1942 America goes into North Africa and we take control. This was called Operation Torch. Then we went into Sicily and Italy. In Operation Overlord in 1944 we invade Normandy and liberate France.Vll.V-E Day was on May 15, 1945. Hitler has committed suicide so his generals are forced to surrender. FDR dies and Vice President Harry S Truman becomes President. Stalin promised to help America in the Pacific in 90 days after the Europe war was over. When Truman becomes President he learns of the Manhattan Project (the construction of the atomic bomb). Vlll.America had already been firebombing Tokyo and more people died from this than the atomic bombs. Truman knows using the atomic bomb will save American lives and finish up the war so he says that if by August 6 Japan hasn’t surrendered they’ll drop the first one on Hiroshima. 3 days later if they haven’t surrendered the second one would be dropped on Nagasaki. They dropped both atomic bombs and V-J Day (when Japan surrenders) occurred on August 15,
