Prejudice- pre-conceived judgments about a group of people that use rigid stereotypes & ignores difference among members of a group. II. Discrimination- unequal treatment of individuals & groups in society because of theirgroup membership. III. Racism- one racial group is inherently superior/inferior to another.-Individual vs. InstitutionalIndividual- the negative beliefs of an individual about a group of people.Institutional- racism is a part of the American social ladder and is built into everyday life.IV. Majority/Minority Relations-Extermination- dominant group kills minority group. -Subjugation- majority group controls the life-chance opportunities of minority group. The group in power has control over the law.-Cultural Pluralism- various racial & ethnic groups can co-exist in peace. V. Assimilation- the process by which minority groups lose their distinct culture & identity & become part of majority group.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture.
