Name:Purdue Login:Section Number:005 / 020Step 3Step 41. Are line plots appropriate for this data? Why or why not?Yes, because we want the x-axis to be determined based on the years given in the data, and the data was taken at even time intervals-- annually.2. At the end of 2012, guinea-worm disease was confined to South Sudan, Chad, Ethiopia, and Mali. If safe water coverage increases in these areas, how would you expect the number of guinea-worm disease cases to be affected? If safe water coverage in these areas increases in these areas as well, it can be expected based on Ghana’s results that the number of guinea worm cases in these areas also to decrease, eventually declining to zero.3. How could the information in the two charts be beneficial an engineer working on a project to provide clean water in another country? It could be helpful to provide reason and incentive to solve the clean water problem, as well as give an example of the minimum time for the clean water system to work with minimal maintenance costs so the problem can be eradicated.1. List and briefly describe five competencies (knowledge, skills, and/or attitudes) you think would be most needed to successfully complete this work assignment.1. Knowledge of the geography of both continental regions, so the correct landscape as well as access to resources can be found.2. Knowledge of what the company needs in order to expand, in terms of labor, administrative staff, buildings, and access to resources and shipping—in order to be able to look for these things in the possible locations.3. Attitude of acceptance of diversity and actually wanting to learn about and work with the Asian and South American cultures. One would not be discriminatory to the foreign team members working on the project to find where to expand, nor to the new foreign staff of the expanding company.4. Knowledge of the culture and the respect towards different people in that culture, or typical way of life in those cultures. One needs to successfully interact with the important people in the countries where one’s company might expand, so friendly relations can be established.5. Skills in economic factors of the company in expansion operations, so one knows how feasible it is to move to a certain city that might be more expensive to live in compared to another in terms of price of land, taxes, and laborers’ wages.2. How prepared are you to enter this work situation? What knowledge and capabilities do you have and what do you lack?I have capabilities for learning languages and aspects of cultures, combined with respect and acceptance of diversity—wanting, in fact, the diversity so excitement to work with members of other countries who would have more and different ideas. However, I am not very prepared because I would need to learn of the possible country’s economic facts and the economic factors of the company that wants to expand, and I would need to learn the geography of the possible countries and what resources the company needs from/for the expansion. What engineering school did you select for this homework problem?Environmental and Ecological EngineeringEnter your answer(s) to the engineering school homework problem in the box below.1. Wilcox Environmental Engineering, based in Indianapolis, IN, and established in 1994 (as Astbury Environmental Engineering, Inc.). “Wilcox provides personalized environmental consulting and engineering services with an emphasis on reliability and affordability.”2. Air Analysis: Wilcox engineers use the 40 CRF60 or CRF61 or NIOSH methods to test air for particulates, sulfur dioxides, nitric oxides, carbon monoxide, Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP), and more. These methods include withdrawing particulate matter isokinetically from the source and collecting it on a glass fiber filter; using a continuous analyzer for a specific gas, while handling contributions form calibration gases, during the test; and more.Investigation and Remediation: Wilcox engineers develop conceptual site models for applying effective and economical solutions to the pollution. Project requirements often include air sparging, biosparging, soil vapor extraction, soil washing, land treatment and/or slurry walls. A health-based risk assessment will also be created, as well as feasibility studies, contaminant fate and transport modeling, and final, system installation.3. I would need to learn much more about specific air pollutants, how they get into the atmosphere, how they affect flora and fauna in the area, and how they can be removed; and more about methods to treat the different ecosystems (rivers or soil or forests). More model development practice would also be helpful so I could contribute to making those plans in the company. I would also need the skills in order to operate machines or tools or analyzers used in testing the project sites.4. Environmental and Ecological Engineering matches my interests because I care a lot about our planet and its fate and how humanity is impacting it. I want to be able to help reverse any negative effects we may have caused on ecosystems in order to protect the special animals and plants that live here too. I think I have the skills in order to consider many different aspects of the earth and what could be affected and also come up with many ways to help improve a certain polluted site and use different methods to accomplish things instead of what made the pollutants.Don’t forget to complete Step 2, the survey portion of this homework!
