Voluntarism: Americans give 6-7x as much as the rest of the worldb. “Bowling Alone”c. in the last 50 years, more than ½ of all the clubs and organizations in the US have disappeared (garden clubs, etc)II. Government is all clogged upa. At the end of WWII, congress had 2000 employees, but now there’s between 30-40kb. In the 1940s, there were around 38 different committeesi. Now, there’s over 200, with the average senator belonging to 12 of themii. There are assistants for every committee, and they end up doing most of the workc.
