Note: The Common Course Syllabus is the same for all SPC Introduction to Sociology courses and a copy is also available on Blackboard. Office Location: AD121 Office Phone: 894-9611 ext 2469 Office Hours: MW 9:30-11:00am; TR 11:00-12:00 & Fridays 9:00am-12:00 pm or by appointment. Course Description: This course is a study of human group behavior, including the forms which group life takes; relationships of groups to other groups; influence of groups on the individual and relationships of individuals to each other as members of groups. - BLACKBOARD: In this course, all course materials and assignments are within the Blackboard program. It is important to BOOKMARK the LOG IN PAGE FOR BLACKBOARD in to avoid problems if the SPC server is down. BLACKBOARD has its own server and is not connected to SPC. Instructions for logging into Blackboard are available on that page. ALL assignments and semester paper will be submitted within Blackboard. It is important to ask in advance if you have questions. This will be discussed further on the first day of classes. If you miss the first day, discuss with Ms. Steinhauer. 1. Assignments are submitted within the Assignment link on Blackboard. 2. Lecture OUTLINES for each chapter are available on Blackboard, please have printed BEFORE class. It helps to leave spacing so you can take lecture notes on the outline. Note: these are OUTLINES not the complete lecture. 3. Email: All email is sent to Ms. Steinhauer via the BLACKBOARD emails system not by SPC email. Check often. Please do not use your outside email (ex: yahoo, aol, gmail, etc)since it may not be opened due to concerns about viruses. This applies to quizzes of whatever length as well as to final examinations, to daily reports and to term papers." – SPC General Catalog. - The attempt of any student to present their own work, which he or she has not honestly performed, is regarded as a most serious offense and renders the offender liable to serious consequences. SPC considers any violation of the student code of conduct as a very seriousP a g e | 3 offense. As a result, the student may be dropped from the course with a grade of “F” AND the incident may be referred to the DEAN OF STUDENTS for further action. This course requires students to submit only their OWN WORDS for all parts of assignments and discussions. Do NOT use information from any other source unless requested and then proper citation is required. - Student Appeals – see College catalog: "The student should schedule an appointment with the instructor of the course to discuss the final grade or disciplinary action.
