It’s a place marker or “saves your spot”. In otherwords, it’s just like the bookmark used when reading a novel.The motivation behind using the bookmark feature is to have a special place tokeep information that’s been researched on various web sites. It can serve as areference tool and the prime location for finding often used addresses. There aremany different ways for creating bookmarks using AOL, Internet Explorer orNetscape Communicator. For the purposes of this job aid, we will be usingNetscape Communicator 4.5 as our Internet source. Therefore, this job aid willprovide direction for adding, editing, deleting and organizing bookmarks inNetscape.There are a few key terms that should be defined before proceeding:1. Netscape Communicator Window – original screen viewed when Netscape opened2. Bookmark Window – window used after Bookmark selection made3. Link – web site address4. Icon – graphic (image) representation of what performance to do5. Separators – allows for the organization of folders Adding a bookmark 1. Go to the web site you want to add as a bookmark2. Click Toolbar Bookmark Add BookmarkThe important thing to remember is that it will simply add it to the end of yourbookmark list. If you want it in a particular folder you need to file it. (Refer toCreating and organizing folders/bookmarks section) To file a bookmark: If you want to add a new bookmark in a particular location, do the following:1. Go to the web site you want to add as a bookmark2. Click Toolbar Bookmark File 3. Choose the folder you want to place it inQuick Tip: A shortcut to add bookmarks!There are more ways than one to do everything. Here is a way to combine adding,filing and editing. This step will allow you to add a bookmark and not only direct thefolder it goes into, but also to put it in the exact place within that folder that you wantit. Follow these steps:1. Go to desired web site.2. Move the mouse over to the icon next to the location bar. (Your mouse pointer willturn into a hand).3. Click once and hold until we’re done. 4. Now drag it to the bookmark icon. The bookmark menu will open.5. Now go to the folder you want the bookmark in and choose the exact place youwant the bookmark. (This is indicated by a line!) Editing modeEditing allows you to reorganize your bookmarks with features such as creatingand moving folders/bookmarks, deleting folders/bookmarks, separators,renaming, update, formatting personal toolbar, saving bookmarks, and importingbookmarksSteps:To get to editing mode:1. Go to the Netscape Communicator window2. Then click Toolbar Bookmarks Edit bookmarksNow you see the Bookmark window, proceed accordingly to your need.I) Create a folder and then drag it to a desired position1. Click ONCE on the top main folder with the title "Bookmarks for …. "2. Click File New folder3. Enter the folder name OK4. New folder now appears 5. Click on the newly created folder once and hold. 6. Click on the folder just above where you want to put a new folder. 2. Click File New folder3. Enter the folder name OKIII) Create a sub folder within a folder1. Click once on the bookmark or folderthat you want to delete. 3. Press the delete button on thekeyboard or go to edit choosedelete.BeforeAfterAfterClick the folder or bookmark once then drag it between two links/folders.Highlight the bookmark or folder you want to delete SeparatorsAdding separators between folders or links enables you to organize yourbookmarks into groups. Click on the folder just above whereyou want to put the separator.2. Click File New separatorBefore AfterAdd a separator between links 1. Click on the link just above where you want to put the separator.2. Click File New separator Before After RenamingSometimes the link you added has such a long name or doesn't even have aname! You can use the rename feature to give it a more meaningful name.Steps:First, from the Netscape Communicator window: Click Toolbar Bookmarks Edit bookmarks If you want to Rename a link:1. Click on the link that you want to rename ONCE2. Click Edit Bookmark properties3. In the Name text box, type in the desired name
