Structure of Lab sessions For the first part of each lab session we will have a review of the material that we have covered in class and the material that will be addressed in the lab. For the second part of lab we will briefly go over the computer setup and what is expected for the assignment. We will be using Environment for Visualizing Images (ENVI) software for most of the labs. While working on data in the KESDA Lab you should save data to the D: drive on your computer. The D: drive is accessible to anyone who uses the same computer as you so at the end of lab you should save your data to your flash drive/USB stick if you need the data. Please come prepared, i.e. reading the day’s assignment before you come to lab. I recommended bringing a calculator each week. You may also bring your lecture notes and textbook. Also, I encourage you to come by my office hours or email me if you having any problems. I check my email often, but please do not email me the night before a lab is due and expect me to get back to you in time.Lab assignment schedule Week Date Due Date Lab No. Lab 1 08-26-2011 NO LAB 2 09-02-2011 09-09-2011 1 The Basics 3 09-09-2011 09-16-2011 2 More basics and introduction to ENVI 4 09-16-2011 09-23-2011 3 Aerial photos and Satellite orbits 5 09-23-2011 09-30-2011 4 Landsat imagery, Change analysis 6 09-30-2011 10-07-2011 5 More Landsat, Assessing volcanic eruption damage 7 10-07-2011 10-21-2011 6 Effect of scan angle on pixel size 8 MID-TERM 9 10-21-2011 10-28-2011 7 SAR image Analysis 10 10-28-2011 11-04-2011 8 InSAR, Altimetry 11 11-04-2011 11-11-2011 9 Remote Sensing with EOS Satellites 12 11-11-2011 11-18-2011 10 Supervised Classification, Snow & Ice Cover 13 11-18-2011 12-02-2011 11 Vegetation Index, Unsupervised Classification 14 FALL BREAK 15 12-02-2011 12-02-2011 12 ENVI features 16
