EMS Data Generator for MySQL Tutorial by Jan Kincl CIS 764 Database DesignIn this tutorial you will see how easy is to use EMS Data Generator for MySQL. There is also similar version for Oracle called EMS Data Generator for Oracle. Both are available for download after registration on EMS web page in 30 day trial version. Step 1 – Download trial version of EMS Data Generator for MySQL from web page: http://sqlmanager.net/en/products/mysql/datagenerator Step 2 – Install in your directory and run: MyDataGen.exeStep 3 – After first starting the application, you should set up your database connection. Database can be on your local computer or remote.Step 4 – After connecting to your database. You choose tables which you want to fill in with automatically generated data. You just easily press arrow ( > ) for one table or double arrow ( >>) for adding all the tables. For our tutorial purpose you choose just one table.Step 5 – Choose first column called id and edit it. Choose “Generate Incremental Data” and set “Initial Value” to 1 and “Increment” to 1.Step 6 – Select “first_name” column and choose “Get Data From List / SQL – query” and to “List of Values” fill in some random first names.Step 7 – Select column “wc”. In this field we need Boolean values or NULL values. We choose “Set NULL value in” 10% of cases. In Parameters set “Min Value” to 0 and “Max Value” to 1.Step 8 – After setting all fields you continue by pressing “Next >>” and then “Generate”.
