Kiana Thomas Professor A Montero ENC 2135 1 April 2022 Writer s statement The issue that I am using the genre project to convey is how common and frequent medical errors are Therefore I want my audience to understand how dangerous medical errors can be and why some doctors get away with it It is very unprofessional when doctors do not act honestly when they realize they have made a medical error For instance there are many cases where relatives of the patient ask the doctor about the cause of the injury death among many other problems and the doctor s response might be dishonest because they wouldn t like to put their jobs at risk and cause a bad image for the hospital which is unfair Looking at it from the doctor s point of view the best way to try to prevent medical errors is to be very active and attentive in the health care industry being communicative with the patient so everything would be clear on the procedure that could be done sanitary measures like disinfecting the hands to avoid the spread of infections and many other ways to prevent a medical error As a patient the way I will take charge of my health is by speaking up to the doctors if I have any questions doing research on any medication prescribed making sure I m doing the treatment plan the right way etc The genre styles that I will use are about this topic and it will give the audience a better understanding of this issue The audience for this project are for doctors and adults above 20 years old It might change the audience s perspective for the better and all the information given through these genres can also encourage doctors to have more engagement with their patients This project will be incredibly helpful for anyone in general and very informative of this situation of medical errors which cause many deaths around the world I will be focusing on delivering the audience real life facts and examples For this reason I have decided to use three different genres which are the top 10 list PowerPoint and a comic to give awareness to the audience about how this issue is affecting many patients PowerPoint The first genre I am going to use is PowerPoint I decided to choose this genre because they are generally useful to convey information on a topic I will present medication error stories that the audience should know and might find interesting It will also show real life cases that have happened to several doctors and patients in the past years These medical error stories also include the exact place where the event occurred This genre will be able to demonstrate the problems involved with medical errors and will show rhetorical appeals like logos and ethos The way I will use logos and ethos is from my research and by using credible sources that can back up my opinions The PowerPoint will have solid colors and a dynamic design I want to show the audience that this issue is getting out of hand and that there are many ways to prevent medical errors Top 10 list The second genre that I am using is the top 10 list of medical errors that lead to death This genre s purpose is to explain the many reasons that cause harm to a patient s health It will describe each type of medical error with information percentages amounts of people involved in the case and examples The list should be able to grab the audience s attention because of how frequent this issue really is This list will have logos and ethos as well The information given in the list will be very brief The design will be simple so that the audience can focus on the information given I will put several images to complement the genre Comic The third genre that I will use is a comic I believe that comics are a fun way to engage with the audience and they would have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts on something are in particular This genre s design will be colorful and entertaining This genre will include a doctor and a patient in a hospital The context of the comic will be about the doctor accidently making a mistake during a medical procedure The comic will let the audience have a brief look on what happens currently For this last genre I am expecting the audience to understand all the information and suggestions given throughout this project Description of genres In the PowerPoint I made slides about medication error stories I decided to make the slides about that topic because the audience should see real life incidents that has happened in the past years I also used logos and ethos for this genre I used 4 different stories and described the issues that happened I believe that if the audience see these stories it will be eye opening because of how frequent this issue is The top 10 list has information about the top causes of medical errors that people experience and may lead to death I think it is important to mention these causes for the audience because it makes them aware of the problem The list is very brief concise and easy to understand I also added some color to this genre The comic looks very dynamic and fun It is about a woman during a job interview She is asked about some questions regarding her last job and she explains the reason why she got fired Final reflection Together these three pieces will explain in a brief but effective way how serious medical errors really are and how careful we need to be The consequences of a patient care error may be hectic and distressing Doctors must also think ahead about present procedures and potential for error and injury before making a mistake While mistakes do occur the consequences of those mistakes are increased
