Operational sex ratio (OSR):It’s the ratio of sexually competing males that are ready to mate with sexually competing females. 2. PRR: Potential Reproductive Rates. The potential rates at which reproduction could occur. 3. Parental Investment: It is the time and energy that a parent takes and puts into their offspring’s future at the cost of the parent’s ability to invest in other components of their fitness. 4. Lability: easily altered.5.Intrasexual selection: an act in which males fight over dominance of females.6.Ejaculation: the ejection of semen from a male reproductory tract.Summary Questions:1. Central theme? The central theme of the article, is that males are also choosy while mating. It has been proven that females are choosy to which male they want to mate with because they prefer the strongest and the one who will provide the most care. But now, males are also being choosy with which female they want to mate with and the males are fighting other males for females. 2. Relevance? We should care because as a species we look to see what species thrives and reproduces more. By seeing what males will mate with which females we see what types of traits and genes can be potentially passed on and so forth. We also get to observe as to how males fight with other males, and who wins and why. When we observe mating patterns it helps us figure out how to make a species thrive. We can then use this information to our benefit by helping the species that are slowing dying out survive. 3. Future Research?As far as future research goes, they may want to show how the males are fighting with the other males. The article talks about parental care a lot. It says thatif a male provides more parental care, then on the other scales as a proper mate, if he is lacking that is okay. While parental care is an important asset, there should also be other qualities that are looked at also such as physical
