OBJECTIVES This course provides an overview of the field of management We will cover a wide variety of topics and students should leave the course with a basic familiarity of all key areas of management Management 309 is a survey of the field of management for all non business majors The course objectives include the following to provide a general overview of the field of management to introduce students to the major activities and functions of management and to illustrate for students the generic nature of management regarding other business functions TEXTBOOK Griffin Ricky may be found on the course webpage in a PDF file They may be downloaded and printed at your discretion 2 Copies of the slides may also be obtained at the Aggieland Bookstore in Copy Corner building in the traditional 3 slides to a page with lines for notes format in PowerPoint GRADING AND EXPECTATIONS Students are expected to attend class and to stay current with the text I will not be taking roll however I believe that attending class will give you a better understanding of the material therefore improve your course grade and your retention of the material I ask that students do not use a computer or iPad during class unless approved by me On some days class lecture will parallel the text while others days material will be covered that is not found in your textbook You are responsible for everything covered in class regardless of your attendance Management 309 Wesson Fall 2014 Page 1 Please check with other students regarding this information on days you are unable to attend class as I do not provide that information due to absences Class will start and finish on time each day so make every effort to be here at the start of class Please do not leave early unless it is absolutely necessary and unavoidable If you have an appointment such that you need to leave early please sit in a seat near the back of the classroom that day If you arrive after class has begun please sit in the back of the classroom so that you minimize distracting others while finding a seat Course grades will be based on four exam grades Each exam will be administered during regular class time and will consist of 40 multiple choice questions Each question in turn will be worth 2 5 points therefore making each exam worth up to 100 points Final grades will be based on the overall class distribution of total points with a potential range from 0 to 400 points 360 400 points A 320 359 points B 280 319 points C 240 279 points D 0 239 points F I will not curve individual exam grades or final cumulative points Please do not ask for additional points at the end of the semester Exams will consist of multiple choice questions The exams will not be cumulative and will only cover material not covered by previous exams I do not give exams early under any circumstances If you enter the exam after a student leaves the exam you will be given a make up exam Make up exams are part multiple choice part short answer fill in the blank EXAM PROCEDURE You are asked to bring your UIN NOT SS and photo identification with you on test days e g student ID card or driver s license You also are responsible for supplying your own scantrons for all tests The appropriate form is the Texas A M University Measurement and Research Services scantron It is 8 1 2 x 11 and is blue gray in color In addition be sure to bring number 2 pencils to class on test days There will be a 5 point penalty deducted on your exam grade equivalent to two missed questions if you fail to fill out the scantron
