Lesson 19, Section 3.3 (part 1)In section 3.1 you studied how to translate some application problems into a system of 2 equations (2 variables). In this lesson we will use the elimination or substitution methodsto solve such problems. We will also be studying some other types of problems that can be solved using 2 variables and 2 equations.1) The sum of two numbers is 40. The first number is 10 more than the second number. What are the numbers?2) In 2002-2003, the average total SAT score for high school students was 1026, with the average math score exceeding the verbal score by 12 points. The sum of the measures of the first angle and half the second angle is 64 degrees. Find the measures of the angles.a = first angle measureb = second angle measure14) Recently an art club purchased 120 stamps for $46. If the stamps were a combination of $0.43 and $0.29 stamps, how many of each type were bought?5) In 2003 Americans bought an average of 76.4 gallons of water and soft drinks per person.
