Class Meeting Time and Location: Classes will meet Nov. 18 & 19; Dec. 2 & 3; Jan. 6 & 7; Friday from 5:30-9:10 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wayland Baptist University – Sierra Vista, 400 W. Fry Blvd., Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 9. Catalog Description: Ethical dimensions of goals and values of organizations and managers, perspectives on corporate social responsibility, influence of government, history, and culture on organizations, effective management roles, dynamics of informal groups, and understanding and working with people. 10. Prerequisites: MGMT 3304 11. Course Outcome Competencies: - Upon completion of this course the student should be able to: - Describe the key competencies necessary for managerial effectiveness; - Identify how personalities and attitudes affect behavior, commitment, and organizational effectiveness; - Describe motivation and the motivational process; - Explain the concepts of stress and the stressors that affect organizational performance; - Contrast the basic characteristics of groups (formal and informal) and teams; - Identify the different styles of conflict handling and different negotiation strategies; - Identify the essentials of effective leadership; assess the limitations on a leader’s impact; - Discuss how interpersonal communication affects relationships among employees; - Explain the basic concepts, principles, and models for making ethical decisions; - Explain how organizational cultures are formed, sustained, and changed; - Identify key pressures for change;- Describe common reasons for individual and organizational resistance to change and methods for promoting change. 14. Attendance Requirements: Due to the unique design of this class and schedule, you must be present. You are expected to turn in all assignments when due and participate in class discussion and activities. Missing class will make this difficult. Although the University allows for 3 absences for this class, you are encouraged to attend each session. You will lose participation points every time you miss a class. These points cannot be made up, unless you are deployed or an unavoidable absence occurs. The instructor may require proof to validate absence. If you know you will be absent for a class, please notify your instructor at least a week in advance; if an emergency comes up during the week, please email me to let me know you will not be in class. You are expected to arrive on time and not leave early unless an emergency occurs. If you are more than 15-minutes late for class or returning from break, it will be considered ½ an absence. 15. Documentation of a disability must accompany any request for accommodations.” 16: Course Requirements and Grading Criteria: Grading criteria for the course is based upon the student’s demonstration of knowledge and reasoning skills pertaining to topics outlined in the course text. The following assessment criteria are used to assess student learning outcomes and determine final grades: Examinations: Mid-semester, and Final - (25 points each; totaling 50 points towards of the final grade) Research Paper: Written on a topic approved by the course instructor pertaining to the course text (25 points toward of the final grade) Attendance and Participation: (10 points toward of the final grade) Home Work: Three home work assignments relating to subjects in the course text (5 points each; totaling 15 points of the final grade) Final Grade: 90–100 points=A, 80–89 points=B, 70 –79 points=C, 60 –69 points=D, 00 –59 points=F Research Paper: Each student will complete a 3-4 page research paper on a topic relevant to the course subject matter and approved by the course instructor. Papers will be word processed and double-spaced adhering to APA requirements. Grammar and punctuation as well as content and organization of contents will be a large part of determining the grade of research papers. Students must list at least four references. Two of the four references must be books while the remaining references may be from the professional publications on the internet, magazine articles, or newspapers. Plagiarism: This class will adhere to zero tolerance for using someone else's work as your own. Plagiarism will result in course failure and will be reported to the Dean.Academic Policies: Students are responsible for reading, understanding, obeying, and respecting all academic policies, with added emphasis being placed upon academic progress policies, appearing in the Wayland Baptist University Academic Catalog applicable to their curriculum and/or program of study." 17.
